Ah yes, Doritos. don’t we all love them? it seems it has become an annoyance to some though, in our research of the topic, it seems some are complaining about the crunching sounds gamers make while in their gaming sessions as they gobble down some flavory doritos alongside their favorite beverages. Even for us, not such online gamers, we still encountered uncomfortable situations like these. Allegedly, it’s a distraction and hurts gaming performance. (maybe they should just “git gud” nah just kidding).

Doritos Silent. in addition to the snack itself, in the promotional video they introduced “the world’s first AI-augmented snack powered by crunch cancellation.” In other words, you’ll now be able to make crunch sounds as loud as you like without worrying about annoying your team or party members while gaming online!. It’s said that the Snack Giant took over six months to develop the noise cancelling AI, and the software is currently only available on Windows PC, for now.
The process would involve the AI to learn and analyze over 5000 crunch sounds, wow, we had no idea that many sounds could come from eating a chip of Doritos.
Dylan Fashbaugh, founder of smooth technology and spokes person of the giant said that: “We all know that gamers love Doritos, but that unmistakable crunch can often disrupt those intense gaming moments,” and “We’ve worked to ensure gamers can enjoy the crunch of Doritos without disturbing their fellow players, making for a better gaming experience.” in a statement.
While some may dismiss this whole ordeal as needless and pointless, and just a marketing tool to push out their new product, to some others is a life saving software that would make gaming that much more enjoyable!.
At any rate, Doritos mentioned that snack and beverage companies are drawn to the gaming industry. Heineken , for example, is offering a custom built PC with an integrated Heineken beer fridge as part of the beer brand’s social gaming campaign in Brazil. Nuts! now you don’t even have to get up from your chair to continue enjoying your favorite drink! We all wonder what repercussions this would have on our health! but oh well, gotta keep gaming!.
Final Thoughts
While the idea is definitely refreshing, here at alas de pegaso we have an even larger problem, we mean; yeah, noises are annoying, but, what about creating AI to bleep out curse words, racial slurs and the like? no? how about something more trivial like smothering your brand new PS5 controller with doritos goodness so it takes on that particular smell, or don’t you folks just love to pick up those greasy controllers in your next gaming session? we certainly don’t.
